What's the biggest mistake artists make that prevents their business from growing?

The biggest mistake is inconsistency—going dark on marketing and sales for extended periods. Artists chase shiny objects: trying one marketplace, then pursuing galleries, then doing a show or two, then jumping to the next thing. They avoid the fundamental pain of treating it like a business and doing the actual sales and marketing work consistently. Without consistency, there’s no compound growth year over year. The business stagnates while the artist keeps creating but never builds the marketing infrastructure needed to get the work in front of buyers.
