Should I have separate social media accounts for different aspects of my creative work (like music and photography), or merge everything into one?

Generally, I prefer one brand for everything because you are the brand. Attention and marketing are the hardest things to get, so if you have a following or established customer base somewhere that knows, likes, and trusts you, those people need to know about all your creative work. It’s better to have one brand doing multiple things. However, if you have an established business bringing in substantial revenue on one account and that account is growing, there’s an argument for not muddying the waters. Here’s the practical approach: inch into it. Start occasionally posting content from your other discipline on your main account. Include subtle hints—like having your photography visible in the background of music content, or mentioning your music in photo posts. If you get no negative feedback, lean into it harder. If you still get no negative pushback, lean in even more, and eventually just merge them. The algorithm is sophisticated enough to show photography content to photography fans and music content to music fans—the only real exposure risk is people directly visiting your profile. As long as your bio clearly communicates what you do, you should be fine. And remember: it’s easy to delete posts if something doesn’t work, so don’t be paralyzed by fear of making the wrong choice.
