How should I think about 'collectors' differently?

Think of collectors as ‘true fans’ rather than something that will magically happen to you. A collector isn’t a passive occurrence—it’s someone you actively create by making them amazingly happy and serving their needs. True fans don’t just buy your art because it’s the best in the world; they’re buying you as much as the artwork itself. About 50% of the sale is the artist and their story, and 50% is the subject matter and emotional connection. The artists who succeed are trying to serve specific customers, having actual conversations, asking questions like ‘How can I make your life better?’ and ‘What would make you want this in your home?’ Build fans by understanding their needs, offering items at various price points so they can participate in your world, and making them feel connected to you and your work.
