How long will I continue creating art as an artist?

As a creative, you will be at this for the rest of your life. For as long as you can keep creating, you’re going to be creating. You’re ultimately going to be seeking validation that comes from that artwork being seen, reacted to, and ideally sold. Unlike other professions where people retire, artists and photographers are not wired that way—they continue creating for 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, sometimes 80 or 90 years. Understanding this long time horizon is critical, because the earlier you start learning how to market yourself, the better off you’ll be. Every experienced artist consistently says they wish they would have started 30 or 40 or 50 years ago.
