What are the uncomfortable realities artists must face when starting to market their work?

Building your art business will be tough at first with some painful early years. You’ll have to learn technology that you probably don’t like. You’ll need to get good at doing things that are uncomfortable. You might have to come out of your shell and get comfortable being on video for the first time, which none of us naturally like. You may need to share personal aspects of yourself—whether you’re into dogs, cats, CrossFit, where you live, what you eat—things that help potential buyers bond with you as a person and artist. All of this discomfort is part of the process of focusing on that second train of marketing. These challenges are normal, expected, and necessary for building a successful business that will last for your entire art-selling career.
