Why is Q4 (October-December) so important for art sales?
In the Western world, a massive amount of sales activity happens in the last three months of the year — Q4. This includes Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the entire holiday buying season. More art and photography is typically sold in Q4 than any other quarter, and sometimes more than all three other quarters combined. Think of Q4 like a marathon that’s coming. If you’re going to run a marathon, you need to start training with short runs now. You need to be able to sell directly from your website, let people know you exist, capture emails, and start emailing those contacts. Let them know you’re around, that you have new work, and that there will likely be sales and promotions in Q4. You can’t afford to sit out this quarter after working so hard on your creations. Don’t wait until October 31st to get started — that’s too late. You won’t have enough time to get your art out there and do the initial marketing.
