What's the most important metric for the health of an art business?

The number of new customers acquired per year. The math conclusively shows it’s far easier to get someone to purchase again than to purchase for the first time. A customer can be acquired at any price point—$0.30, $3, $30, $300, $3,000, or $300,000—it doesn’t matter, as long as a transaction happens. When you unlock diverse products and price points (including non-wall-art under $100), your new customer acquisition can jump from 7-10 per year to 150-300+ per year. Over 6-7 years, that’s thousands of customers. Then when peak selling season arrives, you have thousands of past customers to bring back for repeat purchases, and your business essentially runs on rocket fuel with minimal effort.
