Why don't art schools teach artists how to run an art business?
This is a huge gap in art education that’s genuinely infuriating. Artists study all the movements and periods—Impressionists, Renaissance, individual masters like Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock. Photographers study their own history and masters. But nobody ever studies the Masters of Business in these programs. You never learn how successful artists actually built sustainable businesses. This leaves artists completely unprepared for the business reality they’ll face, which is why so many struggle despite having talent and training in their craft.
